Steve Miller, Jr.

I grew up in Brown County playing basketball and baseball against the Columbus schools. Not liking them very much either, but as it turned out married Denise Hall in 1992 who was a Columbus North Bulldog and we graduated high school the same year in 1986. We have two daughters we are very proud of in Paige and

Sydney. Both girls like to fish and hunt with me, which has kept us close even as they get older. We attend the Parkview Nazarene Church where I have taught Senior High Sunday School class for about 15 years and I enjoy helping in the kitchen every Wednesday night with Mark and Chisato Daugherty preparing a home cooked meals for the youth group and leaders.

I have been blessed to live my whole life in Brown County and be a part of the huge Miller family with 35 first cousins! My dad served 16 years as an elected member of the school board in the 80’s and 90’s. We both share the same concerns for the kids of Brown County in trying to give them the best in educational opportunities.

Carol Bowden

I was born in Philadelphia and spent my childhood growing up in southern New Jersey. I was born with moderate hearing loss requiring the use of hearing aids and attended public schools before the advent of the Federal Disabilities Act of 1975. I graduated in the top 5% of my high school class and went on to earn a Bachelor Degree

in Science with a Physical Therapy Certificate from Sargents College of Allied Health Professions at Boston University.

I have been practicing as a Physical Therapist since graduation. I am the widow of Richard A. Bowden, a 1967 graduate of Brown County High School and mother of Jessica, who is a 2009 graduate.

I have a passion for education from my parents who both felt that education was necessary for success in life, wherever it may take you. I also have the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to get the lifelong skills for educating oneself so that they may be able to reach for their dreams and more.

Judy Hardwick

My name is Judith K.Hardwick. I grew up in Indianapolis, and graduated in 1959 from Howe High School. After Shorty and I were married in 1961 we would come down to Brown County as we loved riding horses in the park and water skiing at Lake Lemon with our long time friends Eddie and Shirley Brown. We had looked for a home to buy

here but Shorty got drafted during the Vietnam War so that stopped our relocating plans for several years. We moved to Brown County October 1971 to the home I still live in.

I started working at Helmsburg Elementary in 1982, after volunteering in 1981 to help move and staff the library. I started teaching as a paraprofessional in the Title One program where I taught for 14 Years. Ten years at Helmsburg, two years at Sprunica and two years at Nashville Elementary. I then became the Asministrative Assistant to the Title One Director for six years. We were people who wanted to be involved in tryng to help children in anyway we could so Shorty and I put together the “Taxpayers for Quality Education” movement in 1988 when the High School was trying to get the auditorium and gymnasium built. I spoke before the State Committee that was sent here to listen to both sides, and as you know we now enjoy both facilities. I was appointed to the Park and Recreation Board in 1989 and continued until 2001, and I am a retired Tri Kappa member.

Shorty, myself and Linda Hobbs then started the Brown County High School Booster Club in 1989, as there was a need to equip and run an empty concessin stand, as well as buy slickers, basketball uniforms etc. for our students who participated in Brown County athletics. I vacated the Presidency of the booster Club when our son Sam graduated in 1993.

When I retired in 2002 from the school coroporation I missed our involvement with the children, so in 2006 I ran for the “Brown County School Board.” That was the start of a wonderful post–reitrement position. I do not get to interact a lot with the students but I get to be a part of working for their ability to have a quality education, with highly effective teachers, teachers who truly care for their students, quality facilities, and I believe the best administrative team there is:from the Principals, Vice Principals/Athletic Directors, to those who work in the Administration Building. Then we have those who man the school offices, nurses room, our custodians who keep our schools clean and shinning, those working in our maintenance building, and in our bus transportation building. I am truly proud to be a part of of “Brown County School Corporation” team. Thank you for having faith in me and electing for a third term.

As my children were growing up, I spent time on the 4-H Fair Board and 4-H Council as well as helping with their 4-H Club. I enjoyed 17 years as a
