Camp Details Q & A
Q1: When does camp start?
A1: On Monday, July 5th 2021 at 9:00am, students should arrive at the Brown County High School parking lot with their belongings. Buses will load and all campers will arrive at the camp between 10:00am and 11:00am. Students will have lunch at camp!
Q2: When does camp end?
A2: On Friday, July 9th students will have lunch at camp. They will load busses with their belongings and return to the Brown County High School parking lot for parent pick-up at 4:00pm.
Q3: How many of the student in my household may attend camp?
A3: Any number of students from a household may commit to attending camp as long as they meet the grade level requirements. Students entering 2 grade through entering grade 8 may apply. Students will be divided into grade level groupings at camp so families will not necessarily stay in the same cabin.
Q4: What will the schedule at camp be like?
A4: Campers will follow a daily camp routine. They will wake up, eat meals, and go to bed at about the same time each day. Activities and opportunities include:
- Swimming
- Horseback riding
- Archery
- Canoeing
- Arts & Crafts
- Outdoor Science Activities (Creek Walks, Nature Hikes)
- Groups games
- Zipline and ropes courses (for older students)
- Leadership Development activities
- Team Building activities
- Life Skills Development activities
Q5: Who are the staff at Happy Hollow and are they trained?
A5: The staff at Happy Hollow are a combination of full time year-round employees and college students hired and trained to be camp counselors. The ratio of staff to students is 2 to 8 (2 counselors for every 8 students.) There are 8 cabins. Each cabin has a Lead Counselor. All camp counselors participate in a multiple-week training course. They consent to an extensive background check process and drug screen.
Q6: Can my child or teen have their cell phone at camp?
A6: Cell phones are not allowed at camp. Camp is a time to “unplug.”
Q7: What is the cost to attend Happy Hollow?
A7: There is no fee for families to pay. In addition, families that need assistance with specific supplies may indicate so on the camp application is the space provided.
Q8: What are the ages for children to be able to attend Happy Hollow Camp?
A8: Happy Hollow serves children between the ages of 7 – 14.
Q9: How are the children divided into groups?
A9: The children are divided into cabin groups of 6 – 9 boys or 6 – 9 girls based on their ages. They will stay in cabins with two staff members.
