Designed specifically for K-12 teachers and students, Canvas is an easy-to-use, cloud-based learning management system (LMS) that connects all the digital tools and resources teachers use into one simple place. It integrates seamlessly with hundreds of apps, empowering teachers and students with countless tools to make teaching and learning easier and more fun.


Canvas provides students access to homework, digital resources, printable materials, quizzes, and anything else they may need for class.  It gives them a way to stay organized and the opportunity to interact with everyone in their classes, including their teachers.


Teachers use Canvas to structure their courses. It gives them the ability to disseminate class information and materials, as well engaging with students through class discussions or direct communication. It also provides an easy way to collect, grade, and return student work.


Canvas provides an easy way for parents to be involved in their child’s day-to-day education.  Parents have the ability to see everything within a course that their child can see. Upcoming assignments, graded papers, and class resources are all available to the parent as an observer.  While they cannot participate in the class, they can observe all materials.

Observing a student is a two step process:

Logging in as a parent:

Your parent account should be created and linked to your student(s) automatically if you have an email address listed in Skyward.  Your new account DOES NOT have a set password.

  1. Go to or click the link to Canvas – Parent in the Quick Links section on the BCS website
  2. Your Login is the email address you have listed with BCS in Skyward.
  3. If you have not logged in before, click “Forgot Password”
    • Enter your email address in the Login box
    • Click Request Password
    • Check your email for a message to reset your password
  4. Enter your password
  5. Click Log In
